Baraboo’s downtown frequently sees new businesses launch around the historic square and in August 2012 it welcomed Con Amici, a wine bar on Third Street, named for the Italian phrase with friends. This classy but comfortable bar sans televisions designed to foster conversation is open Monday through Saturday afternoons and evenings. It offers wines often found only in larger urban areas, beside an array of locally produced beverages and foods.
As you relax with friends in the inviting ambiance you can enjoy freshly made chocolate truffles from Wisconsin Dells, bread from the new bakery around the corner, Carr Valley Cheese Company’s cheeses from its plant in western Sauk County, just-ground coffee from the shop across the square, Wisconsin microbrews and Sprecher sodas. Local fruits and vegetables in season are also on the menu.
Wine connoisseur and owner Laura Hamdan-Krause established her new business upon sustainable practices and alliances rooted close to home, including locally sourced goods, repurposed furnishings and techniques that generate nearly no waste. You’ll find cloth napkins, soy candles made locally, an original 1907 piano from a one-room schoolhouse and restored hardwood flooring in the bar.
While finishing your last-minute holiday shopping, drop by to relax with friendly conversation and sample from an impressive wine selection.
