Every November and December the Downtown Baraboo, Wis., Historic District, now a National Register of Historic Place, twinkles with the historic square decorated for Christmas and filled with song by strolling carolers and music broadcast into the streets. Come Dec. 9–10, 2016 for the Very Merry Weekend:

Dec. 9–10:  The Very Merry Holiday Fair is three blocks south of downtown Baraboo in the Baraboo Arts, Banquet & Convention Center adjacent Circus World Museum. Have a fun and delicious time shopping for artistic gifts Friday: 12:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Mingle with 60 artisans, authors and food purveyors. Enjoy wine tasting, and wine and dine with artisans with a cash bar and café. The first 500 patrons receive shopping bags, there’s a special gift drawing for the first 100 patrons on Friday, plus a drawing for gift certificates See Fair participants and learn more at www.theverymerryholidayfair.com. Dec. 9: The Edwardian Christmas Wine And Appetizer Premier at the Sauk County Historical Society’s Jacob Van Orden mansion built in 1904 and now a living history museum, three blocks west of downtown Baraboo, 7:00 p.m. An adults-only party with live music, festive appetizers and holiday spirits such as traditional European mulled wine, and Christmas beer and wine. Experience the sights, sounds and tastes of an old-fashioned, Edwardian-era Christmas in the mansion at night with subdued lighting, decorated for the holiday season from the Edwardian era, with 11 fresh trees uniquely dressed by local designers, businesses and volunteers. This year’s theme is A Sauk County Christmas; each tree will highlight a historical or natural attraction in the county like Devil’s Lake, Circus World Museum, the Sauk County Fair and others. Dec. 10: The Annual Edwardian Christmas Celebration is 12:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. Tour the Jacob Van Orden house museum decorated as it was for an Edwardian-era Christmas, when the mansion was built in 1904. Volunteers dress 11 fresh trees for the event’s theme, this year A Sauk County Christmas. Enjoy live holiday music by local musicians and vocalists and the dinning room filled with holiday desserts. Dec. 9:  Downtown Reedsburg’s Living Windows, 35 minutes from the Inn, 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Stroll of one of Sauk County’s most beautiful historic downtown districts while visions of Christmas come alive in participating businesses’ windows in the theme A Storybook Christmas. This free event has horse-drawn wagon rides, carolers, warming stations, hot drinks and treats. Mr. and Mrs. Claus visit. Dec. 9:  Mad Apples House Concert at the River Arts On Water Gallery, Prairie du Sac, 7:00 p.m. A folk trio from Madison, Wis., fills the air with guitar, mandolin, banjo and ukulele with harmony singing about love, justice and a greener world to feed your spirit. No advance ticket sales for these casual, intimate house concerts with beverages provided, but donations are appreciated to benefit River Arts Inc. programming. Dec. 9–11: The Christmas Gift at the Portage Center For The Arts and Drury Gallery, Portage, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. An original musical by a local playwright about Lizzy, who has lived at Mrs. Merryweaher’s home for unwanted children since losing her parents three years ago. Dec. 10:  Around The Farm Table Holiday Party at the Tripp Heritage Museum, downtown Prairie du Sac, 11:00 a.m. Wisconsin Public Television’s Inga Witscher, host of the Around The Farm Table, a locally produced weekly program, presents Savory and Sweet Canapés and Cooking for your holiday party. Leave with recipes for upcoming holiday parties, and enjoy laughter and holiday magic! Experience the 1912 historic building in all its Christmas glory. Shop gifts from area authors, such What Milly Did, the remarkable story of area recycling pioneer Milly Zantow, and Joseph Schorer and His Breweries in Sauk City and Elroy, Wisconsin. Author Jody Kapp will be attend to sign copies of the Sauk Prairie Images of America book featuring more than 300 images of the area. Spend the day: lunch and shop in the Sauk Prairie Riverway. Dec. 10:  Historic Living Windows, Portage, 4:00 p.m.–6:00 pm. A historical celebration of Portage strolling its downtown streets viewing and walking through numerous decorated storefront windows in vintage vignettes depicting holiday seasons of old.
