Friday night fish fry at Devil’s Lake State Park, in Baraboo, Wis., resumes June 10, 2016 and continues until Labor Day. From 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. enjoy a hearty supper under the towering oaks along Devil’s Lake’s north shore, or indoors in the historic Chateau if it’s raining.
Elite Catering of Baraboo will again offer two pieces of fish, one piece of chicken and three side dishes for $11.50. Purchase a beverage from the park’s North Shore Concessions, and an ice cream cone for dessert!
Afterward explore the park…
A Lawn Chair Bat Watch occurs each Friday night during the summer beginning May 27, 2016 at 8:15 p.m. Meet near the north shore boat launch by the bat condo to watch bats emerge from their houses. The white-nose syndrome is spreading in Wisconsin and depleting the bat population. Come see and learn about these interesting and now threatened mammals before you can’t. The start time begins progressively earlier through the summer. Visit www.devilslakewisconsin.com for the current times and updates about park events.
Paddle the peaceful lake with a kayak or canoe that you can rent from the North Shore Concessions at the Chateau, or at the south shore’s concession stand. Kayaks are $25 for a single or $45 double. Reserve a craft or ask a question by contacting the Nature Center at 608-356-8301 ext. 140 or [email protected].
Watch the sun set from the East Bluff Trail from atop the 500-foot quartzite cliff. Access this trail from either the north or south shore. Pick up a trail map in the north shore’s Nature Center or download it here. Take a flashlight to descend through the wooded sections at dusk.
Then order a s’mores kit and enjoy the fireflies dancing in the prairie as you snuggle by the campfire on the secluded terrace at our Inn at Wawanissee Point bed and breakfast, five minutes west of the park.
